I'll look for this, Jim.  It's hard when you run a company and you are spurred by a sense of ownership as well as a well-founded paranoia, to find the things that people who work for you are equally passionate about.  But not impossible.

On The Empire (Mass Media) Strikes Back

There's more to it than even your excellent points, Steve.  I think that "mass media" is smarting (witness the Arianna/Bill Keller tiffs) from the valuation of the platforms and (formerly) niche, new media players like HuffPo.  And is looking at ways of leveraging social that borrows from more innovative companies (Forbes with blogger outreach.)  I think the argument that best favors the big guys is the need in social media for quality brands... and they will prevail if they worry more about that than their losing ad dollars.

On E-commerce Comes to Facebook

Many small businesses can supplant their own ecommerce sites with facebook, particularly in retail.  But I'd advise a btob firm, such as a professional services firm, to also create a blog to feed into a facebook page the kind of long-form content that builds thought leadership.
