SBA Business Loans for Green Projects

I’ve always thought that to provide additional incentives for investing in projects which reduce power or provide some other green-related benefit, there has to be some kind of financial carrot in the form of special loans or lower interest rates. The best organization that could make a difference on such a massive scale would be [...] read more >>

A Swedish-made device called Solvatten uses solar energy to disinfect water. NewScientist’s online technology reporter Colin Barras writes, “An indicator signals it is safe to drink once the temperature inside has reached 55 C [131 F]. That heating, together with exposure to UV radiation, helps destroy harmful bacteria, and the water is also filtered during pouring [...] read more >>

The Timberland Story

Timberland is a boot manufacturer that espouses the right kind of social and environmental responsibility: substantive and transparent. Their brand isn’t explicitly known to be green. They make comfortable and high-quality boots (among other merchandise) for men, women, and kids in traditional and fashionable styles. I’d like to cover more about them in a future [...] read more >>

Please Don't Give (Me) Stuff!

Holiday gift shopping is in full swing and I have had a number of relatives ask me what I would like to get.  I always say, please don’t give me more stuff.  Stuff basically includes any and all physical objects (excluding books).  I have long ago crossed the threshold of having too much stuff and find myself spending more and more time getting rid of stuff to unclutter my life.  Paul Graham has a longer post describing his similar issues with s... read more >>

Review: Hot, Flat, and Crowded - Thomas Friedman

Having listened to the The World is Flat over MANY hours on my bike two years ago, I anticipated an intellectual boatride guided by captain Thomas Friedman in his book: Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution — and How It Can Renew America. The points of the book worth mentioning are as [...] read more >>

Defining Sustainability

Well, what does it mean? Great question…no easy answer. However in my inaugural article over at the MarketingProfs Daily Fix blog, I attempted to the best of my abilities to help fellow marketers understand on a macro level what green and sustainable mean.

To check it out, please visit:

One point very much worth mentioning though, is the risk of being labeled as greenwashing is..... read more >>
