Profitability of Small Businesses Rise
At the same time, overhead and payroll as a percentage of sales both decreased significantly this year. All three indicators lead Drew. B. White, the chief financial officer of Sageworks to commend owners of small businesses for doing what it takes to survive in the face of a dramatic drop in sales. Sales from the beginning of this year through Sept. 30th have dropped 3.75%.

Hi Jess, thanks for the post and very useful study, it seems that this year, 2010, will be the year of extracting more productivity out of each employee, each resource, each minute. However I would hope that 'doing the right thing' also includes more than just layoffs, but rather, better deployment of tools and tactics, such as leveraging investments in technology already on the shelf, or empowering employees with better visibility into company operations for insight into how they may contribute more effectively.Is the cost of employee insurance killing your business?
