MarketingProfs B2B Marketing Forum ReviewFor those of you who followed my live-tweeting during Marketing Profs B2B Marketing Forum, I hope it was helpful.

And for those of you who unfollowed me, I understand…My output has caused another Social Media Hangover. There was just so much great content and so many amazing people, I was like a kid in a candy store.

But the good folks who ran the show gave us “10 Imperatives To Chart A New Course In B2B Marketing” to help me get through this recap blog post before I collapse.

Before I give you the goods, I have to say what a great show it was.

  1. I met the best people in the business. There were so many great thought leaders such as Ann Handley, Mack Collier, Christy Ferguson, Christina “CK” Kerley, David Thomas, Ardath Albee, Carlos Hidalgo,  Jeffrey L. Cohen, Tim Washer, Sam Fiorella, Bob Knorpp, Leigh Duncan-Durst, Joe Chernov, Mika Lofton, Mark Scherer, Frank Days, CB Whittemore and Brandie McCallum. But I know I missed a few. It was great to meet you all!!!
  2. The show was really well done. Megan Leap, Corey O’Loughlin, Matt Grant and the whole crew did an amazing job keeping it all flowing. Food was all good. Coffee and snacks were plentiful. After-parties thanks to the sponsors. The live #Blogchat was a special treat with a great group.
  3. Amazing B2B Content. Every single session I attended had some real value or a couple of nuggets of wisdom in it. And I missed more than a few that I know were going to be good. Oh well, reason to come back next year. And the keynotes were truly amazing…all three of them!
  4. Total inspiration. It started with my new friend Christina “CK” Kerley‘s call to action on mobile marketing. Wow, does she know her stuff and how to inspire a room. Then Guy Winch gave us the formula for “Turning Unhappy Customers Into Fans.”  Sandy Carter compelled us all to become ”Social Businesses.” And Nancy Duarte gave the best keynote I’ve ev-er seen on the power of storytelling.

Best of all, was the fact that they compiled it all down to these 10 steps to take your B2B Marketing to the next level. Here they are:

  • Lead generation: Develop a process, people, and content plan to get the most from your marketing.
  • Lead generation: Shift focus from lead generation to lead management to enable buyer engagement.
  • Content marketing: re-imagine your content. Create meaningful stuff and stop “random acts of content.”
  • Content marketing: Do something unexpected with your B2B content. Have some fun with mobile, video, gaming.
  • Social media: Make social media an integral part of your marketing.
  • Social media: Start with goals, strategy, and structure to your social media marketing efforts.
  • Mobile Marketing: Make your content mobile friendly.
  • Mobile Marketing: Integrate new mobile tools into existing programs to increase ROI.
  • Metrics & Measurement: Tie social media measurement to bottom-line business objectives.
  • Metrics & Measurement: Learn the difference between monitoring, measurement, analytics, and ROI.

Hope I get to go next year!
