The NY Times article How I Almost Took a Two Week Vacation pointed to an interesting phenomenon with entrepreneurs - we don't unplug during vacations like our corporate counterparts.

Do you bring a laptop, tablet, smartphone on your vacations to check in and keep in touch? I used to ski when younger and routinely was away for 10 days or more and did not feel comfortable being out of touch for such a long period. The introduction of the laptop and built in modem (a modem? what's a mode?) gave me the ability to check email and keep on top of critical events, like good news on a new product launch!
As an entrepreneur, most of my friends and colleagues in corporate American and don’t understand this need to keep in touch. For the longest time I felt that maybe I was wrong and they were right. However age, wisdom and self confidence lead me to feel I was OK being in the business mode, partially, while away.
Fast forward to today, my profession is different… I teach, consult and write here on About.com so vacations recharge my creative juices.
Who enjoys the airport and being crammed into the plane? You have airport downtime and the predictable delays, so my trusty netbook provides a way to capture all of those great ideas that pop into my mind while waiting at the airport in "stuck" in my undersized seat on the plane.
Entrepreneurs should feel comfortable that they are… well… just different from most people. So, go ahead and feel good about never quite unplugging from the business mode. Most people work and don’t have fun. We entrepreneurs work AND have fun!
