If social media is an expanding universe with infinite users as stars collectively forming galaxies as networks then conversations, interactions and culture is the space matter that binds them all. I know this all sounds very geeky but who cares. Reality is just like many evolutions we know about, social media’s gaining popularity is not less than an evolution by itself in the planet called “web”. And like any other shift in technology we have seen in the last few decades, social media has caught up very quickly. Let’s see, if you are not in Facebook or Myspace, haven’t heard about Twitter and blogs, don’t know what SXSW is, it’s about time you buy a ticket and jump on the shuttle for a space ride. The point is, today web is not about sites, searches and information but it’s about conversations. It’s about people engaging and connecting on node to node basis sharing their ideas and thoughts just like we would be doing in our day to day social life.
So what will it be like if there was a mathematical model or formula that summed up social media in just an equation. Perhaps a theorem simple as Pythagoras and complex as Relativity. Either way, I give you the Social Media Theory.
The shortest distance between two people is a “conversation”. That’s the basis of the evolution of social media.
Go ahead, share your own theory and equation. Let me know how you see the social media universe.
