Renting or Buying Your Exhibit – Pros and Cons

1688

Are you renting or buying your exhibit? Many companies still struggle with this question. In order to determine what is right for your company, you need to consider a number of different factors. This also includes your overall marketing strategy, budget, and a number of different decisions.

Top reasons why you BUY

To make it a bit clearer, we are first going to discuss the top reasons why you buy or rent your exhibit. These are the reasons you would want to buy:

  • You have multiple annual shows – If you do many shows (oftentimes this is more than four) the costs of minor repair, previewing, and storing your exhibit is spread across so many shows that it makes it more cost effective than renting your exhibit.
  • Tax advantage – You may benefit from a tax advantage if you use liquid assets to buy a depreciable capitol asset.
  • Consistency – If you have a specific message that you want to send or have a specific subgroup of potential clients that react well to a specific marketing message, it may be worth investing in your own exhibit if you feel that it can reach that audience. This is especially true if you will not have to spend much money having to upgrade or alter your exhibition.

Top reasons why you RENT

On the other side of the spectrum, you can rent an exhibition stand. These are the reasons that you may want to rent instead of buy:

  • Less worries – Especially if you have the right contract, there is no need to worry about damage or loss during handling transport and use. You simply enjoy your exhibit when you want.
  • Responsive – If you want to focus on your current marketing message or have an innovative booth design, renting gives you the option to alter your booth closer to the show.
  • Flexibility – Perhaps you want to change your style depending on the show you are attending. Perhaps you need to change the size of the booth. This is far easier if you are renting than if you decide to buy.

Other times to consider renting

If you only have one exhibition stand but have two exhibitions at the same time, you will have to consider renting an exhibition stand. This is especially true if co-occurring exhibitions are something that does not happen very often.

As you can tell, there are pros and cons to both options. Especially if you consider that this is going to be a long-term investment if you buy, it is important to consider your options carefully.
