I

have written quite a bit on this blog about the power of storytelling.  In fact, the whole idea of "story" is becoming quite popular.  Books such as Chip and Dan Heath's Made to Stick and Dan Pink's A Whole New Mind dedicate entire sections in their books to the art and power of storytelling.

One company that has really captured the beauty of this artform is Ancestry.com.  They use the power of a story to communicate their brand, and it works.  Their message is clear, simple, and memorable. Plus, it works wonders for word of mouth.  I saw the first commercial on TV and quickly rushed to get it from YouTube.  Once on YouTube, I found the second one which I have never seen before.  Immediately after finishing it, I wanted my wife to see it because there is something special about the piece.  It just tugs at the heart, and anyone who doesn't see it is missing out.  At least, those are my thoughts on the topic.  The bottom line... the second piece (baseball) almost had me reaching for a tissue.  That's powerful branding.  That's the power of a story.

People always ask me what the best way is to open a talk.  You can never can go wrong with a story.  I'll say it again and again.
