WOM stands for Word-of-Mouth.

And, there are two mouths in word-of-mouth marketing. Yours and theirs.

Here’s the story of both, told very briefly:

It was the biggest of mouths, it was the smallest of mouths...
  • Yours: Closed. That fosters listening to what they say
  • Theirs: Open. Talking, telling, testifying, teaching you what dazzles and inspires or what you should do to dazzle and inspire them.
And following this advice is a far, far better thing you do for your brand and stakeholders than you’ve ever done before.

Tips of the hat to:

Charles Dickens for writing A Tale of Two Cities.

John Jantsch of Duct Tape Marketing for articulating that the best word of mouth starts with ‘word of listen’. Disclaimer: I write a blog channel at the Duct Tape Marketing Channel blog.
