Many people will tell you that the key to having happiness and wealth is a “great career.” That all sounds great, but how exactly do you choose such an excellent career path?
A lot of people have been working for years, maybe throughout their college schooling and into their adult life, and their share of happiness and wealth is still yet to appear. They may have a job, but they do not have a career. Sometimes it seems like only a handful of people will ever find a fulfilling job that they truly enjoy and get everything they need from.
Whether you can believe it yet or not, you too can find something to do that you love that will also provide for you. Here is what you need to know:
1.Know Your Skills
Every job requires a different set of skills. Teachers, for example, need to have great communication skills in order to mesh well with both parents and students. Management roles need someone that has proficient leadership qualities. Because of this, you should take the time to determine what exactly you are good at. Identify every skill and talent that you have, even if it seems unrelated to your job hunt.
If you like solving crossword puzzles but don’t think that this skill in particular is very marketable, try thinking about it from a different angle: What aspect of crossword puzzles do you excel at? Decision making and creative problem solving? These are both critical skills that apply to a wide range of careers.
2.Figure Out Your Goals
Whether your goal is to help those in need, to travel, or to simply make a significant amount of money to provide for yourself and your family, it is helpful to know what you want out of your life and your job. If the job you are pursuing does not match up with these long-term goals, then you may never be satisfied with it.
However, keep in mind that goals can change over time as you grow and change yourself. One thing may have seemed incredibly important at one point in time and then become less important a few years later. As long as you keep the big picture in mind, you should be able to stay on track.

3.Identify Your Work Style
Your ability to grow and evolve in specific careers can be dependent on your work style. If you are someone that likes to put things off, for example, having a job that gives you someone to directly report to on a daily basis may benefit you more than a job that gives you the freedom to do whatever you want because reporting to an individual ensures that you won’t procrastinate yourself out of a job and back to square one.
To understand how you work, consider the past jobs you have held. Where did you excel and where did you struggle the most? Sometimes, setting your own work schedule and independently working is more helpful than having a supervisor or boss making sure you are completely accountable.
While there are many factors that can affect your performance in the workplace, you should be aware of your overall work style. This will play a big role in the careers that you should lean towards and which ones are not the right fit for you.
