JD.com has been an online supply chain and service provider serving more than 300 million active users for many years. However, in 2022 this company took a significant turn and introduced its first physical retail shop, “Ochama,” located in the Netherlands. The company plans to open more similar locations in Europe and other parts of the world.
This new shop model has introduced a new shopping format because it has merged online stores with physical pickup shops. These physical shops are robot operated, and these machines prepare parcels for customers and offer home delivery services.
JD.com is a company that Richard Liu founded in 2007, and over the years, it has been providing its Chinese customers with everything ranging from groceries to fancy clothing. According to Pass Lei, the general manager of Ochama JD Worldwide, they look forward to using the experience gained in running JD.com to provide better shopping services to its new customers in Europe.
Richard Liu has always stepped ahead of his competitors from the beginning. In Ochama, he has introduced the first automated warehouse that is believed to be the futuristic pickup store. The warehouse has been equipped with robotic machinery to pick, sort, and transfer the parcels to the pickup point.
Thailand Officials Joins JD’s Livestreaming to Promote their Home Country Products
Netherland is the best starting point for the new Ochama shopping format. According to data by the World Bank, in 2020, about 92% of the total population in the Netherlands lived in cities. The Dutch people are more passionate about innovation and protecting the environment, and the new shopping strategy is expected to contribute to these two aspects.
In the physical pickup points, customers are required to scan their Ochama’s App QE code and the product they had bought to their position by a system of conveyor belts. In addition, the clients can also book a next-day home delivery service without necessarily going to the physical pickup warehouses.
Towards the end of 2021, JD Worldwide invited Thailand representative officials to a live stream promotion of the countries products. The officials in this meeting were the ambassador of Thailand to China, H.E. Arthayudh Srisamoot, Ms. Pathumwandee Imtour, Minister-counsellor of agriculture, and Ms. Pakkanan Winijchai, from the tourism authority of Thailand.
More than 25 Thailand products were promoted in the live stream, including seaweed, Vitamin C tablets, black tea, shredded squid, and pepper with pork stomach & chicken. In addition, to the live stream, JD Worldwide opened seven booths at the CP center in the central business district area of Beijing. These booths sold many Thai products on the JD’s 2021 Singles Day Grand Promotion.
JD.com’s Black Friday: International Sales and Logistics Backing
In November 2021, JD Worldwide launched a week-long sale from November 21st to 30th, coinciding with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It was a sales platform aimed to extend JD.com services to customers in other regions of China and the world.
During the Black Friday sales, the JD platform offered its overseas customers’ shipping discounts, which attracted many potential customers. In addition, JD introduced consolidated cross-border shipping where several orders could be shipped together to save money and time.
JD International Logistics Perfect Shape and Operation Over Black Friday
JD Worldwide has expanded its services and technologies globally. It’s logistic framework not only allows the movement of goods from China to the target country, but its warehouses serve clients from these host countries.
JD Worldwide provides integrated full-chain solutions to its clients, and it is famous for using different modes of transport like air, rail, sea, and truck, depending on the physical location of the clients. Use of different ways of transport speeds goods delivery hence maintaining clients’ loyalty.
Under the leadership of Richard Liu, JD Worldwide has partnered with other countries, and they have started promoting and selling their products. This mostly happens on Black Fridays when orders and sales increase exponentially.
Moreover, there are several JD FBA one-stop warehouses in most of Europe and the United States. The warehouses have made cross-border parcel delivery easy and convenient through technology integration. Richard Liu has ensured that all goods sold are tracked throughout the deliveries process to improve the efficiency of the company.
