Business cards can make or break your first impression. If you don’t do it right, you can end up creating a serious image issue and wasting your valuable marketing dollars. Although there is a lot that you can do when creating unique business cards today, there are some serious things that you will want to avoid at all costs. Here are the top five business card printing mistakes.

  1. Leaving out your contact information. You can’t just list your name and company. You need to provide people with phone numbers, email addresses, and other ways to contact you so that they can reach out in a way that works for them. Provide as much direct contact information as you can to make it as easy to contact you as possible.
  2. Choosing poor quality cardstock. Business cards make a strong impression and cheap, flimsy cards are going to say that you’re a cheap businessperson. Therefore, you’ll want to consider premium cardstock or unique materials like metal or wood if you’re in the trades to make sure that you get people’s attention and make the right impression.
  3. Lack of branding and design. Too often, people pick a template, type out their contact information, and then just leave it at that. They don’t include their logo or try to match company colours. Branding is critical for your business cards.
  4. Typos and misprints are absolute no-no’s. There is NO reason that you should have any typos on your business card today. You can use spell-checking tools and all kinds of editors. Plus, you review your cards before they’re sent to the printer and the printer reviews them, too. If your cards are misprinted, order new ones.
  5. What’s your reason? Too often, people list contact information and company information without giving people anything else. If you use your business cards smartly, you can give people value (or a reason to contact you). That way, you can ensure that they’ll reach out.

There are plenty of ways you can go wrong with business cards, but these are some of the biggest issues to keep in mind. Business card printing can change your business image, and you want to make sure it’s a change for the best.
