1. Use keywords wisely

When it comes to optimizing your wordpress blog for Google search result keywords play a vital role.

You must try to rank higher on Google search result on specific keyword.

For example – If my content is on blogging then I will try to rank on the word “blogging” for that page.

This is also called as your “Main focused keyword” by the Yoast SEO plugin which you’re trying to rank for.

So how to use your main focused keyword in order to optimize your wordpress blog? Simple.

·       Put your main focused keyword in the first-100 keywords zone.

·       Include this keyword in the headline of the post.

·       Do the same with SEO title, meta description and even in the permalink.

Just make sure you don’t over-do it, or else Google will penalize you for keyword stuffing.

2. Proper use of H1 and H2 tag

This is the most basic one but almost 95% of bloggers do it wrong.

Wanna know how Google understands what your content is all about?

It’s heading tags.

So what’s the catch?

It gets easier for Google to read your content when you use H1 and H2 tag properly.

When Google will understand your content it will promote to potential readers resulting more traffic on your blog.

So what I recommend is use H1 tag for the main headline of the post and use H2 tag for sub-headings.

It breaks down your post into sections, making it easier for Google to read as well as your readers.

3. Power of internal and external links

This is really an important part for the optimization of your wordpress blog.

Google doesn’t like posts with no links at all be it internal or external.

Internal link is the link of your own blog which you need to put in your content wherever is required.

While external link are the links of other websites and you must include at least one external link on your blog post.

This will make good impression in Google’s eyes plus your readers will also thank you for linking the source websites.

Just make sure the link you include in your article are relevant to the topic of your blog post.

Just like this one TheBlogIncubator, this is a relevant site filled with information about blogging, brining traffic to the blog and writing content that goes viral.

4. Optimization of Images

Images are a big part of any webpage. They consume a lot more space than just text alone.

When you don’t optimize the images on your blog the will result in slowing down your website and we all know how annoying a slow website is.

Google lives for good user-experience.

If your website is slow due to large file of images consuming up-to 1 mega bytes of space your visitors will go away from your site.

And Google doesn’t like it at all and ultimately it will stop promoting your content higher on Google search result.

So make sure you optimize the images of your blog.

The best way to do is install a WordPress plugin called EWWW image optimizer and it will do rest of the wok for you.

5. Fix broken links on your blog

When your blog is filled with irrelevant broken links it exudes only one thing.

SPAM.

Plus it also hampers the user-experience and as I said user-experience is the new SEO, Google will penalize you for having broken links inside your blog post.

So take the time, fix broken links and update your blog post with relevant links which aligns with the topic of your blog post.

6. Limit URL lengths of your posts

The shorter the URL the better.

It will do one thing which is making your blog post super specific in Google’s eyes.

When you alter the default permalink and optimize it by adding your main focused keyword in it Google is going to understand your blog post very easily resulting more impressions and clicks.

So, it’s a no brainer.

While altering the default permalink be sure to never include any numbers in it. Google doesn’t like numbers or dates in the URL.

Just add your main focused keyword in the permalink.

That’s it.

These were the best on-page SEO practices which you need to keep in mind in order to optimize your blog posts for Google search result.
